How to upload to Family Tree DNA (MyHeritage)

Family Tree DNA, MyHeritage, Opt In, Tutorial

Get your raw data

Log in to MyHeritage.

On the menu at the top of the page, hover over the “DNA” tab and then click on “Manage DNA Kits” in the drop down menu.

The next page will show the list of kits that you manage. Click on the three dots all the way to the right side of the kit you’d like to download the raw data for and then choose “Download” from that drop down menu.

A window will pop up with information about what the raw DNA data file includes. Click “Continue”. In the next popup, you will be asked to confirm that you’d like to download your raw DNA data, check the box and then click “Continue”.

Check the email associated with your MyHeritage account for the next step. The email should arrive within a few minutes. Open the email and click “Click here to continue with the download”. This will redirect you back to back to MyHeritage. Enter your password and click the “Download” button.  Save the file to your computer where you can easily locate it again but don’t open it or unzip it. You’ll need it as-is to upload to Family Tree DNA.

Confirm your first and last name, email address and gender. Click “confirm and proceed.”

Read the terms of service. Click the check box to accept, then click “confirm and proceed.”

Check your Law Enforcement Matching settings

Hover over your name in the top right corner of your screen. Click “account settings” in the dropdown.

Click the “privacy and sharing” tab on the settings page. Scroll down to the “Law Enforcement Matching (LEM)” section. If the slider button labeled “Opt in to Law Enforcement Matching” is blue, you are opted in. If it is gray, click on it. You will be opted in and your settings will be automatically saved.
